A Sinai Chicago team of 21 community health workers, medical residents, and physicians attended the State Senator Lakesia Collins' 4th Annual Mother's Day Block Party and provided health screenings, education on breast cancer prevention, and information about Sinai's programs and services. Our physicians Dr. Burnetta Herron, Dr. Mohammed Assad, and our VP of Government Affairs, Mara Ruff, toured Senator Collins to our four stations at the event, which took place at UCAN, in North Lawndale. The 28th Ward Alderman, Jason Ervin, also visited one of our informational tables.

May is Jewish American Heritage Month, celebrating Jewish contributions to American culture, history, and more! #Didyouknow that Mount Sinai Hospital was founded in 1919 by Jewish immigrant and businessman Morris Kurtzon? At the turn of the 20th century, Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood was home to one of America’s largest Jewish communities. Mount Sinai provided culturally appropriate care for the community, as well as opportunities for Jewish doctors and nurses to practice at a time when they were excluded from many other institutions due to prejudice. Today, Sinai Chicago remains committed to advancing health equity, celebrating ethnic and religious diversity, and offering culturally sensitive care for all of the vibrant communities we serve. #JewishAmericanHeritageMonth #SinaiChicago #HealthEquity #MountSinaiHospital
